I am 32 years old. I am technically not old though sometimes I feel ancient, lol.
I was watching Double Dare (the new one) with my fiance the other night and when we looked up the original (from when we were younger – late 80’s, early 90’s) and realized that was almost 30 years ago – I felt old. We only watched two of the new episodes because the kids in the final round didn’t have the sense of urgency for prizes (flags) like we did when we were younger. So we watched old episodes on YouTube.
I also realized recently, some of my favorite movies are from the early 2000’s. And so those are now 14+ years old.
And when looking back at computers, technology, cell phones, etc. I feel old too. When I was a senior in high school, I was psyched to get a Nokia Tracfone. And when I went to college I had Verizon and a Samsung flip phone that could have survived war. (Sometimes I miss that phone.) But I was a senior from 2003–2004 and in college 2004–2007 (graduated early), and so that was over 10 years ago at this point. And the computers, laptops, etc. have come a long way. I now have a laptop that doesn’t choke on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator like the others used to. And these computer specs are now the average norm. It is pretty cool and yet, also makes me feel old.
Another thing that makes me feel old is when kids say things like:
- What is a computer (like in the Apple iPad commercial)
- What is a record
- Who are The Beatles
- What is a cassette tape
- What is a VCR
- What is a landline phone / internet
- What is 56k
And also when they don’t know things like: cursive, how to address an envelope or how to write out a personal check.
